Lesson: Editing a Saved Record
New Terminology
|
Workflow
A workflow is a sequence of operations that can be performed on an object in OnRamp. A workflow may change the content of a record (ex. editing), or simply change its state (ex. publishing). Once a workflow is launched, it runs until the last step is performed or the user selects to Abandon Workflow.
|
You've actually already completed a workflow when you created and saved the record.
Edit the Record
In Where's my new record?, you used the default tab Unpublished Items in My OnRamp to locate the record. If you aren't in My OnRamp or don't see the record in the list of records under this tab, revisit that lesson and then return here.
The list of workflows that you can run for this record are listed as icons to the right of the title. If you hover over the icons, you will see text appear that describes each workflow. Try hovering over the icons to see if you can find the one that edits the record.
- Click on the pencil icon to edit the record. (The hover text says Update Selected Record - Generic.)
Time for me to start sounding like a broken record. Here's another friendly reminder about abandoning workflows.
|
| IMPORTANT:
|
| If at any point you decide to stop editing the record, DO NOT navigate away from the edit page using the Back button or one of the navigation links. Instead select the Abandon Workflow button. Otherwise, the record will be locked to you preventing others in your project from editing the record. See Releasing a Locked Record for more information on what to do if you forget to Abandon Workflow.
|
You'll complete this edit workflow in the next lesson.
| Note: If you came to this page by clicking a link other than Previous or Next, then you are outside the normal flow of the tutorial and you should either...
- use the Back button to return to the page you were viewing prior to this page
- OR select a topic from the table of contents at the left.
