Lesson: Publishing a Record

Review Content and Metadata

In the last lesson, you completed the updates requested by the publisher. Now you'll switch roles for the moment and play the part of the publisher again.

  1. Locate the record in My OnRamp. (See Where's my new record? for help.)
  2. Notice that the status is Unpublished. This tells the publisher, that's you for this lesson, that this record is ready for review.
  3. Click the title to view the record.
  4. Review the content and metadata.

Complete the Review and Publish

The record is complete, so it is time for you to publish it for the world to see.

Image:Note_32.gif Note: By default, published records are visible to all users of the internet. You can limit access to communities, collections, or an individual record by setting Security restrictions on those items. See the Introduction to Security lesson for more information.

There are two choices for publishing the record at this point. The first is to go to My OnRamp, check the box beside the record(s) you want to publish, and then click the Publish button at the bottom of the list. The other more common method is described next.

  1. Click on the pencil icon Image:ONR edit icon.gif to edit the record. (The hover text says Update Selected Record - Generic.)
  2. Review other metadata. As a reviewer, you would make one last check to make sure that all fields are filled in correctly.
  3. Click the Publish button make the record public.

That's it. You have published your first record.
