Theme

The theme used for the NSDLRC Drupal site is Acquia Marina.

The Acquia Marina features 15 regions in which to place blocks of content.  While it is highly unlikely that you will use all 15 blocks at one time, the number of blocks greatly increases the flexibility of layout options since it provides more areas to potentially display content and doesn't constrain you to a few select areas. The NSDLRC drupal site uses two subthemes of the Acquia Marina theme.  Subthemes are just like any other theme, with one difference: They inherit the parent theme's resources. Subthemes enables us to customize the parent Acquia Marina theme but still be able to easily upgrade the theme when new updates are available without great concern of overwriting customized features.

The Acquia Marina NSDL subtheme is used for the whole site and the Acquia Marina NSDL Annual Meeting subtheme is used exclusively for the Annual Meeting subsite.  The Annual Meeting subsite theme is defined with 'Sections,' a Drupal module.  The theme settings should not be changed.

The front page of the Community site uses a custom template file page-front.tpl.php that eliminates the main content area and prevents content from being promoted to the front page.
