NSDL Community Sign-In Transition

Starting December 1, 2010, NSDL is simplifying the sign-in process for the NSDL Community site (nsdlnetwork.org). We are switching authentication systems from the original email address sign-in (required since site launch in 2009), to use of NSDL's overall authentication system (the same system used to access NSDL Expert Voices blogs, or NSDL Wiki).

If you have signed in to the NSDL Community Site prior to December 1, 2010, you will need to convert your sign-in information before you can once again sign in to the Community site. The variety of possible situations and the steps necessary for conversion are detailed below. Please take a few moments to read through these options carefully.

  • If you already have an NSDL site account and user sign-in name:
    • and it's the same as your current NSDL Community site account:
      • Sign in to the NSDL Community site with your NSDL site account user name and password
      • Example: Joe Smith has an NSDL site user account name of 'jsmith' and a password associated with that account. His NSDL Community site user name is 'jsmith@somewhere.org' and a password. The Community site user name 'jsmith' (the portion of his email address preceding the @) is the same as his NSDL site account user name. He can sign in in to the Community site using just his NSDL account user name of 'jsmith', and his password.  It is not necessary to add any further email address info to the user name ('@somewhere.org').
    • and it's different than your NSDL Community site account
      • Contact an administrator to change your NSDL Community user name to be the same as your NSDL site account user name
      • After your account has been converted (you will be notified when this change has taken effect), sign in to the NSDL Community site with your NSDL site account and password.
      • Example: Joe Smith has an NSDL user account name of 'jsmith' and a password associated with that account. His current NSDL Community site user name, however,  is 'joesmith@somewhere.org' and a password. He contacts an administrator using the link provided, and requests that his Community site user name be changed to conform to his existing NSDL account user name. He is notified when that change has taken place, and he can now sign in in to the Community site using just his NSDL account user name of 'jsmith', and his password.

    • but you don't have an NSDL Community site account
      • Sign in to the NSDL Community site with your existing NSDL site account user name and password.  A Community site account will automatically be created for you.
      • Example: Joe Smith has only an NSDL site account user name of 'jsmith' and a password.  He signs in to the NSDL Community site with the same NSDL user name 'jsmith' and password.

  • If you don't have an existing NSDL site account at all:
    • but you do have an NSDL Community site account
      • Create a new NSDL site account using the same user name as your current Community site account (the part preceding the @ in the email address you used to create your Community site account).
      • After you create a new NSDL site account with the same user name, sign in to the NSDL Community site with your NSDL site account and password.
      • Example: Joe Smith has a Community site account with the user name 'joesmith' and a password, but no NSDL site account at all. He follows the link to create a new NSDL site account, and uses his existing Community site user name of 'joesmith' to create a new NSDL site account, then is able to sign in to the Community site with just the user name 'joesmith (and password), without using the entire email address of 'joesmith@somewhere.org'.
    • and you don't have a Community site account

If you have an NSDL site account but don't remember your password, you can reset your password. If you have questions or need additional assistance, please contact an administrator.
