EPIC report finds alignment .....

A new report from the Educational Policy Improvement Center (EPIC) finds that the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) align well with existing state, university, and international standards and actually add more rigor in certain content areas. “Lining Up: The Relationship Between the Common Core State Standards and Five Sets of Comparison Standards”(https://www.epiconline.org/files/pdf/LiningUp-FullReport.pdf) examines the standards released by the National Governors Association and the Council for Chief State School Officers in 2010 and compares them with current International Baccaluareate (IB) and Knowledge and Skills for University Success standards, as well as leading standards in California, Massachusetts, and Texas. The report notes that alignment is only the first step in reaching the long-term goals of the CCSS, namely providing students with the knowledge and skills to become adaptive learners and compete in a global economy. As states continue to implement and maintain the standards, broader analysis will determine if students are truly learning what they need to know in order to be prepared for college and careers.
