Project Tomorrow has published national findings from its 2010 Speak Up survey of students and parents: The New Three E's of Education: Enabled, Engaged, Empowered - How Today's Students are Leveraging Emerging Technologies for Learning

This report on student and parent findings will be followed up by an additional report on Educator responses targeted for a May 11th Congressional Briefing, in Washington D.C. 

Other nuggets from the 2010 Student/Parents report:

  • Nearly 75% of parents said they would like home access to curriculum materials and online textbooks, and 62% said they would like daily updates online about their child’s upcoming assignments and tests.

  • 42% increase in the number of middle and high school students who report they have access to a smart phone, since 2009
  • Nearly 30% of high school students have experienced some type of online learning.
  • When asked if their school was doing a good job using technology to enhance learning and student achievement, 74% of high school teachers, 72% of principals and 62% of parents said yes. Conversely, 47% of high school students agreed.

  • Almost two-thirds of parents view online textbooks as a good investment to enhance student achievement, compared to 21% of parents in 2008.

  • The number one way schools could make it easier to use technology would be to allow greater access to the digital content and resources that Internet firewalls and school filters block according to 71% of high school students and 62% of middle school students.
