National Library Week

Event Date and Time:
Sun, 04/11/2010 - 8:00am - Sat, 04/17/2010 - 5:00pm

National Library Week will be observed April 11-17, 2010 with the theme: Communities thrive @ your library®.  The observance of National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and librarians nationwide, and promotes library use and support. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate. Downloadable promotional tools are available at the website.

A live Internet event, An Evening with Neil Gaiman, takes place from 6 to 8 pm EDT on Tuesday, April 12. The event is coordinated by the American Library Association’s Campaign for America’s Libraries and the Jessamine County (Ky.) Public Library (JCPL). Gaiman, Honorary Chair of National Library Week and the 2009 Newbery Medal winner (for The Graveyard Book), will speak on libraries and censorship. Librarians across the country who would like to project a live stream of the talk for an event at their library are encouraged to register. OARnet, the regional Ohio research and education network, will provide the ability for up to 1,000 locations to access the high definition stream.
