The Annual Meeting Planning Committee is soliciting proposals from the NSDL community for presentations to be delivered during the 2006 Annual Meeting. The success of this annual event depends heavily on the participation of the community and the quality and relevancy of the sessions. We encourage all projects to share their experiences and successes, and to raise issues that are of interest across NSDL. Proposals are also welcomed from individuals and groups not directly affiliated with an NSDL-funded project.

Leveraging Accomplishments Into New Opportunities
The 2006 meeting theme was chosen to explore the multitude of ways in which the NSDL community is continually expanding the possibilities of the library through collaborations across NSDL?s technical and educational dimensions. The Planning Committee encourages proposals that reflect the diverse possibilities of the theme.

2006 proposals will be accepted in three topic areas that examine different aspects of the meeting?s theme.

Positioning NSDL in Broader Contexts? Sessions under this topic are intended to consider the library?s role in the research, technology, education, and policy arenas as well as the impact on the library of trends in these areas. Sessions may share information about current successes or consider the future from multiple perspectives.

Leveraging Project and Community Accomplishments? The planning committee is interested in hearing about community collaborations involving multiple NSDL projects, or between NSDL projects and other entities, that have achieved successes by capitalizing upon shared technical innovations, content, educational strategies, and user networks.

New Opportunities for Collaboration? Projects are encouraged to share tools, services, strategies, and/or other results that are of potential benefit to the broader community. Sessions under this topic might also include conversations related to how the NSDL community as a whole might take advantage of emerging opportunities.

Proposals are further encouraged to reflect the meetings goals to:

  • actively engage participants

  • stimulate proactive discussion around common issues, and

  • facilitate collaboration.

Please note that Posters will follow a separate submission process and will be available June 30 along with meeting registration. Look for further information about posters and general meeting registration on the Annual Meeting website.

Call for Reviewers
The NSDL Annual Meeting Planning Committee is seeking volunteers to assist in the review of session proposals for the 2006 meeting. Anyone involved in the NSDL community may volunteer as a reviewer. A broad spectrum of perspectives during the review process will help assure the highest quality meeting experience. For complete details, please visit the Call for Reviewers page . The deadline for volunteering is July 7, 2006.

What?s New for the 2006 Proposal Submission Process?

Proposal Submission by Topic Area Rather Than Format. To better reflect the evolving needs of the NSDL community, the Annual Meeting Planning Committee has changed the session proposal process to emphasize the topics of sessions over their formats. This year, proposals will be accepted in three topic categories: Positioning NSDL in Broader Contexts, Leveraging Project and Community Accomplishments, and New Opportunities for Collaboration. The format of each session will be at the discretion of its organizers. Providing information about planned session structure, participant engagement strategies, and desired outcomes remains part of the submission process, however proposals no longer need to be formally designated as panels, workshops, etc.

Updated Proposal Submission Process FAQ. This returning feature of the Annual Meeting website includes helpful information to guide the community in submitting a proposal and addresses what are expected to be the most common questions about the process. Because the submission forms and session format expectations have changed from previous years, everyone interested in submitting a proposal is encouraged to read through the FAQ prior to completing their proposal. Read the FAQ

Other Improvements. Numerous other improvements based on community comments have been incorporated to the meeting content and format, online forms, the website design, and other aspects of the proposal submission and review processes. The committee welcomes your feedback.
