Title: Nobel Prizes

Information: Where can I find information on the Nobel Prize - its origin and history, prize categories and awards, recipients, etc? In 1895, a Swede, Alfred Nobel established the Nobel Prize through his last will and testament. He died the following year on December 10, 1896. Each year, on the anniversary of his death, the ceremonies take place to award these international prizes - each one consisting of a medal, diploma and substantial monetary award. Since 1901, they have been given in the following categories: physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and economics. In 1968, the Bank of Sweden (Sveriges Riksbank) instituted the Nobel Prize for Economics in memory of Alfred Nobel. Winners are announced in October of each year. The web resources listed below will help you to find more information on the history of the Nobel Prizes and their winners. Nobelprize.org - This is the official website of the Nobel Foundation. It "contains information on all 758 winners to date." You can learn about the selection process and the prizes, as well as stay abreast of the new winners. Click on the tabs at the top of the page to find details for the individual prize categories and links to the prize-awarding institutions. http://nobelprize.org/index.html The Nobel Prize Internet Archive - This website provides a list of winners and their contributions. A drop-down menu also lets you link to information about their alma maters and their birthdays.
