Question

I'm not sure if i'm at the right place, but here goes. A long time ago we had planted some yellow wax beans in our garden. that attracted some strange beetles that i've never seen before or since...it's been almost 30 years now. Anyway, these beetles were round like lady bugs, flew like lady bugs, but their color was metallic. I'd taken one of them to show my mom. I was only 7, but i remembered them being silver, but my mom remembers them being a gold color. If i remember right, they were so shiny, they had an almost bluish sheen to them. Can you tell me what type of beetles they were? An expert on lady bugs has told me that there are no metallic colored lady bugs, so i'm hoping you can tell me what they were, if not a rare kind of lady bug. by the way, i live in Colorado, if that helps any. Linda

Answer

<DIV>Hi Linda,</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>I'm going to refer you to bug's mouth, so to speak:</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>What's That Bug?</DIV> <DIV><A href=http://whatsthatbug.com/">http://whatsthatbug.com/</A></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>Check the site's info pages before sending your question. They have a number of pages devoted to beetles. You might find a photo of your beetle.</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>If you send a query and you have a photo, especially a digital photo, it would help them identify the beetle. Be sure to tell them where you saw the beetles &nbsp;and what plant or plants it was feeding on.</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>I'd suggest checking the library but there are so many beetles that identifying it on your own would be difficult.</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>I hope this helps.</DIV> http://vrd.askvrd.org/services/answerschema.xml
