Careers in Technology

Question

1.) What is your major field of expertise and how did you become interested in it? 2.) What suggestions do you have for students who wish to become involved in your field of study?

Answer

My expertise is DB2 for z/OS, IBM's relational database management system. I have worked with DB2 for 20 years and have worked with database for over 28 years. When attending Buffalo State College in the early 1970's, I started to take computer courses as electives while trying to get a BA in mathematics. My senior year, I was reviewing with my consoler what I needed to complete my degree requirements and graduate. It turned out I was a few course short for a math degree. However, I had more than enough computer course credit hours for a BS degree in Information Management. The rest, as they say, is history. If a career in Information Technology is one of your interest, learn all you can about the different fields that are available in IT. Everything from database to network technology is available. Once you find something of interest, talk to folks that are already in that field as a career.
