Question

What is the fastest car on the earth? Could I have a picture of it? THANK YOU!!!! DEWEY T.

Answer

Thank you for your question. There is no single answer to "what is the fastest car on earth?" It depends on whether you mean a car that could be purchased through an automobile dealer or a custom-built car. The speed of "normal" or purchasable cars is probably debatable, since the top speeds depend on manufacturer reports. You may be interested in the custom cars that are tested at locations like the Bonneville Salt Flats. I suggest looking at web pages offered by Professor M.S. Cramer, Engineering Science & Mechanics, Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. His pages, and some of the links he offers, also feature photographs. Home page -http://www.eng.vt.edu/fluids/msc/no_frms.htm Links to automotive sites -http://www.eng.vt.edu/fluids/msc/auto.htm Land speed page -http://www.eng.vt.edu/fluids/msc/auto_lsr.htm Among his suggestions is a NOVA article about fast machines. A section concerns the fastest car - seehttp://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/barrier/machinesleft.html#car Another suggestion is at the North American Eagle website http://www.landspeed.com/). The site includes a "Classroom" section that includes a history of the Land Speed Record -http://www.landspeed.com/learn.asp
