New director for NSF named..

The US Senate recently confirmed Dr. Subra Suresh as the new director of the National Science Foundation, for a six-year term. Suresh has served as dean of the engineering school and as Vannevar Bush Professor of Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has conducted pioneering work on the biomechanicss of blood cells under the influence of disease processes, such as malaria. Suresh holds a bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras, a master's degree from Iowa State University, and earned his ScD from MIT in 1981. Dr. Suresh was sworn in as director of NSF on Monday, October 18.
