Here are some of our NSDL resources in non-English Language.  Most of them are in Spanish but there is also representation from other languages.  We will keep adding more resources regularly so please, check this page frequently and recommend resources in non-English language to us via our Recommend Resources page.

Talking Points - ¿Por qué las jóvenes deberían considerar una carrera en tecnología de la información? Spanish version of Why Should Young Women Consider a Career in Information Technology? This card gives adults talking points and additional resources for a conversation with their daughters and/or other young people. The main message is that IT offers meaningful work, security and high salaries with a bachelor's degree, and flexibility and variety. Information is provided to address these specific questions: What should you tell a young woman about a career in IT? How can a young woman prepare now for a career in IT?

  8. EPA's SunWise School Program helps educators raise sun safety awareness. Topics covered include ozone depletion, UV radiation, and simple sun safety practices. A tool kit with cross-curricular lessons (some available in Spanish).
  9. S'COOL: Cloud Identification Chart and The Cloud Cookery provides detailed information about cloud identification, observing, and reporting. It also provides an activity on how to make a cloud in a bottle. French, Spanish, and other versions of the chart are available.
  10. GLOBE Contrail Chart is a two-page, full-color identification chart in pdf translated into English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and Arabic.

Includes features covering a range of biodiversity conservation issues, Eco-Index offers a way for conservation researchers and practitioners to keep abreast of activity in their field.   24. The Secret of Bog Creek Farm The Secret of Bog Creek Farm is a fictional story about a real Superfund site where children learn through the eyes of local residents.   25. Water Management: towards 2030 This article from Agriculture21 cites the management practices and policies that will be necessary to avoid water crises in the coming three decades.   26. The Planet Janitor© Coloring Book This is a coloring book that focuses on the environmental aspects of energy production and use but also has pictures on solar energy (in English and Spanish).
  27. Environmental Scorecard Get an in-depth pollution report for your county, covering air, water, chemicals, and more. Who Are the Polluters in Your Community? How Bad Is the Pollution in Your Community? The scorecard provides rankings by who, pollutants, worse pollution, geographic location, industrial sector.   28. El Nino Theme Page El Nino is a disruption of the ocean-atmosphere system in the tropical Pacific with important climatic consequences around the globe. This NOAA theme page features links to widely distributed information. Includes data, graphics, forecasts, historical perspectives, and in-depth analysis. It is intended to be useful to scientists, administrators, students and the general public (in English, Spanish, and Portuguese)
  29. Backyard Conservation This resource suggests ways in which conservation practices that are used on agricultural land across the country to conserve and improve natural resources can be adapted for use on the land around one's home. These practices help the environment and can make one's yard more attractive and enjoyable. Ten conservation practices have been scaled down for homeowners (in English and Spanish) from our DLESE partners
  30. The Sun Times An Internet-based multidisciplinary project (10 March - 13 June 2003) that allows students to collaborate with other students and with experts online in determining how their locations affect their average daily temperature and hours of sunlight. Students collect data at their own locations, publish their work on the project site, and use project discussion boards to compare notes with other participants.  Data available (in English and Spanish) thru our Math Forum @ Drexel Pathway
  31. Safe Sunwatching This resource describes methods by which one can view the sun without damage to one's eyes. The binocular projection method and binocular projection with a mirror are described here. The site also provides links to the pinhole method and special filters.   1. Building with Wonderful Junk is an activity in which students plan and build large structures using recyclable materials. The instructions are in English but the letter to parents is both in English and Spanish. From our SMILE Pathway partner
  2. The K-8 Aeronautics Internet Textbook Information about the history and principles of flight is presented at different reading levels.  There is a section on the aerodynamics involved in various sports and sports equipment. The site includes background information for teachers, activities and lesson plans (in English and Spanish) in the Michigan Online Resources for Educators collection
  3. Technology PoW Technology Problems of the Week (tPoWs) are problem-solving challenges that take advantage of interactive mathematics tools such as Java applets or spreadsheets. Students may submit their answers to share their solutions, and then self-mentor using hints, checks, and suggestions for extensions (in English and Spanish) from our MSP2 Pathway partner

  1. The Paso Partners – Integrating Mathematics, Science and Language: A Bilingual Instructional Program from our DLESE and our Math Forum @ Drexel partners.   14. Sea Turtles Coloring Book provides background information about sea turtles in both English and Spanish.   15. Action Bioscience educational resources from the American Institute of Biological Science (in Spanish)

  17. The National Women's Health Information Center, sponsored by the US Department of Health and Human Services, offers an overview of hundreds of topics and current news briefs.   18. Science, Tobacco and You Designed at Florida State University, this site is intended to teach students to make better choices about their health. Students can ask and get answers to their questions related to science, tobacco, and health.   19. The Virtual Body The Virtual Body from MEDtropoliscom is an interactive overview of some of the basic structure and function of the human body. Story of Plant Pathology: Past to Present The American Phytopathological Society (APS) has recently launched an illustrated, narrated version of "Plant Pathology: Past to Present" -- a storybook written by plant pathologists to "help people and young students, in particular, to understand the importance of plant diseases" (written and narrated in English and Spanish) from our Internet Scout Project partner
  21. The Great Plant Escape Fourth and fifth grade students can participate in these lessons and classroom activities concerning plants and plant science. Each lesson in this program is interdisciplinary, and is designed to introduce students to plant science and increase their understanding of how food grows. Students will identify the different parts of plants, what is needed for plants to grow, and learn about plant life cycles and related topics (in English and Spanish)
  22. Emerging Infectious Diseases: A Peer-Reviewed Journal Tracking and Analyzing Disease Trends The US National Center for Infectious Diseases, Center for Disease Control, offers the full text of its quarterly, peer reviewed journal Emerging Infectious Diseases at its web site. The issues are divided into three categories: Perspectives, dealing with the underlying causes of infectious disease emergence; Synopses, summaries of specific diseases; and Dispatches, "brief laboratory or epidemiologic reports with an international scope."   23. Smallpox On December 13, 2002, President Bush announced a strategy to better protect Americans against the threat of smallpox attack. This Web site from the Department of Health and Human Service (DHHS) offers a comprehensive resource for information on smallpox, aiming at an audience of healthcare professionals, medical researchers, and the general public. Sections that would interest the general reader include Smallpox Basics; CDC's Smallpox Response Plan and Guidelines; Vaccine/ Vaccination information; and Information for Kids, Teens, and Parents.
