Hello First I would like to point out that I have not a clue on how to figure out this problem for me. I have a scale model proto-type that's at 1/12th scale and weights 5.5 lbs and made out of aluminum. I would like to know about how much would it weigh at full scale and how did you calulated it? Thanks for any help Bob

It may be much easier than you thought.<BR><BR>One-twelfth scale means that each dimension is 1/12th of the full size.<BR><BR>Weight depends on volume for a solid, or approximately on outer surface area for a shell.<BR><BR>Volume varies as cube of the dimension, area as the square.<BR><BR>So if your model and the full-size are solids, the weight would be 12 x 12 x 12 x 5 lbs. If the model and the full size are shells (mostly hollow on the inside -- could be made out of thin sheets of aluminum) then the weight would be approximately 12 x 12 x 5 lbs. http://vrd.askvrd.org/services/answerschema.xml
