1.) What is your major field of expertise and how did you become interested in it? 2.) What suggestions do you have for students who wish to become involved in your field of study?

Answer

1. Physical processes in the Earth and the other planets. For example, how does plate tectonics work. How do asteroid impacts effect planetary habitability. I became interested when seafloor spreading was discovered when I was a beginning grad student. No one seemed to know how it worked then. 2. Get a good background in math, physics, and chemistry. Biology would help also.
