Death and Dying

Question

What medical journals would be reliable sources for scientific studies describing what people experience when they "die" and are then brought back to "life?" I saw a short Science News article about a multiyear study done out of the University of Virginia, but the news piece did not reference any published data or paper.

Answer

Hi Clifton, Thank you for submitting you question to AskNSDL. Searching for your answer was very interesting. I performed a Google search http://www.google.com ) on the terms: "science news" "university of virginia" "near death" If you perform this search yourself, be sure to place quotation marks "" around the phrases as I've done and put spaces between each phrase. Here is one result that may be the reference you want: "Near death experiences take arresting turn" by Bruce Bower. Science News Online, Week of August 16, 2003. http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/20030816/note11ref.asp Another brief reference to it from the LOOK SMART Directory is: http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/m1200/7_164/107699604/p1/article.jhtml Then, the Discovery Channel Canada's website has another article about Dr. Bruce Greyson's study: http://exn.ca/Templates/Story.asp?ID=2000020454 I also ran two searches on PubMed, the National Library of Medicine's database of citations to millions of biomedical articles from the 1950's to the present at: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed In the first search, I looked for articles by Greyson and entered the following string in the search box: greyson b [au] Below are 7 relevant citations: 1: Greyson B.
