Question

In preparing educaitonal materials for the International Polar Year, we would like some background information on the polar regions, specifically: how much region (in sq miles/km and as a percentage of whole Earth) is encompassed by the polar regions (60 degrees and above)? How many people live in each of these regions (more or less)? What existing inventories/census exist relative to flora and fauna in each region? Thanks!
