Question

Why do we have tornados?

Answer

Hi Cody, I have found three excellent web sites that illustrate how tornadoes are formed. I used www.google.com and typed tornadoes causes for my search terms. In the spring and summer, sometimes the air masses will be very warm and humid, and when that warm and humid air mixes with cool air masses, tornadoes can be formed. Please check out these web sites. The first is from the National Weather Service http://www.nssl.noaa.gov/NWSTornado/ The second is from Scholastic magazine. http://teacher.scholastic.com/activities/wwatch/ tornado/about/ The third is from USA Today. http://www.usatoday.com/weather/wtwist2.htm If you are interested in learning more about tornadoes, be sure and check out your school or public library. The librarian will be happy to show you books on Weather and Meteorology. Thanks very mch for using the NSDL Virtual Reference Desk! Melodye C. Librarian
