Question

How heavy are tornadoes?

Answer

What a great question!

Tornadoes are really just an area in the atmosphere, rather than a solid "thing" that has mass or weight. They are described in terms of air pressure, temperature, and wind speeds instead of their weight.

We usually measure them by their destructive power, using the "Fujita Scale" that goes from F0 to F5.

I've included a couple of links to interesting pages about tornadoes.

http://eo.ucar.edu/kids/dangerwx/tornado1.htm http://www.windows.ucar.edu/tour/link=/earth/Atmosphere/tornado/fujita_scale.html tornado
fujita scale
mass
weather http://vrd.askvrd.org/services/answerschema.xml
