Question

what is the availiability of fire retardent sprays in north america

Answer

I don't know the exact answer but the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA.ORG) publishes standards for flame retardants. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC.GOV) monitors the effectiveness and safety of products. One problem with flame retardant treatments is that they work by increasing the ignition temperature of the materials or they work by giving off gases that extinguish flames. Fibers that can be woven and won't burn include fiberglass - but it is not a comforatble material; Cotton will char and maintain its insulating propertites but lose its strength. Materials like Kapton or Kevlar (polyimides and polyamides) are high strength and high temperature but are so unsuitable for fashionable clothing and comfort they are really only suitable for industrial and hazard-duty use.I hope this helps some. www.firearson.comwww.interfire.orgwww.nfpa.orgwww.cpsc.govfire.nist.govwww.dricon.comwww.flameseal.comwww.sbifinishing.com http://vrd.askvrd.org/services/answerschema.xml
