Question

can you mix hydrogen and oxygen together without a flame?

Answer

You could mix small amounts of the two, but the problem is you might get a flame.  Small amounts of hydrogen and oxygen will not necessarily react with each other, but any small spark could set off the fire.  Much like a match or most other combustible materials, the mixture would need some activation to start the burning.  I recommend you do not try it. http://vrd.askvrd.org/services/answerschema.xml
