Aging

Question

Why do we age?

Answer

Shawn, Ageing is a very complicated process. There are a lot people studying ageing in hopes of finding one or two problems that may explain the whole process. However, the research to date shows that ageing is a complex set of changes in the human body. As the lifespan of humans continues to increase, we learn more about ageing. There are changes to the DNA and cellular metabolism that leads to the "malfunction" of cells in our body. As the performance of these cells decrease with time, we see it as part of the ageing process. The cells in the heart may not beat properly or the cells in the immune system may not respond to infections and disease as they did when we were younger. In general, the activity and expression of proteins in the human body decreases with age, and we are trying to understand why this happens.
