Question

How old can people live to? Asked by Joey

Answer

Hi Joey, Women, as a group, live longer than men. In all developed countries and most undeveloped ones, women outlive men, sometimes by a margin of as much as 10 years. In the U.S., life expectancy at birth is about 79 years for women and about 72 years for men. Among people who are 100 years or older, women outnumber men nine to one. Here are a few web sites that will show you how old some woman have lived to! World's Oldest Person turns 128 http://www.thedominican.net/articles/pampo.htm CNN - World's Oldest Person turns 122 http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/9708/04/obit.oldest/ CBS News - Oldest Person http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/11/15/national/main583871.shtml BBC News Oldest Person http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/3230083.stm Southampton College Press Release http://www.southampton.liu.edu/news/pressrel/pr2001/ccr.htm Be sure to visit your school or public library. The librarian can show you books on Aging. The Guinness Book of World Records has the information for the current oldest person. Thank you for submitting your question to Ask NSDL. Melodye C.
