Contextual Information Provided by Annotation Frameworks and Services

Room: South American B

Tamara Sumner

Educational digital libraries can provide value to users through the provision of additional contextual information related to library resources. This additional contextual information can take the form of peer reviews, teaching tips, ratings, recommendations for use, activities or text that integrate multiple resources, etc. The purpose of this Birds-of-a-Feather session is to provide a forum for NSDL projects to discuss annotation frameworks or services as mechanisms for providing contextual information. This session will be co-chaired by Tamara Sumner, Mimi Recker, and Kim Kastens. Projects that are actively working in this area, as well as projects interested in developing these capabilities in the future, are encouraged to attend. The emphasis of the session will be on sharing information and experiences across projects, with an aim towards developing a shared understanding that will help to inform how NSDL can move forward on this important topic.
